🎉 A Cypress preschool turns 25 — and it's marching a parade down the block today
Twenty-five years is a long time to be somebody's “happy place,” but that's exactly what Primrose School of Barker Cypress has become for a generation of Cypress families — and today it throws itself a party. The early-education school kicks off its 25th-anniversary celebration this morning, July 2, with its annual red-white-blue parade, a fitting warm-up to the flags-and-fireworks weekend ahead.
“We have families that refer to Primrose as their happy place, because it's their second home, it's their second family,” Director Elizabeth Stafford said. The official anniversary lands August 27, when the school plans a bigger bash with sweet treats and activities — but if you've got a little one in the program, today's the day the streamers come out.

Elyson is getting a gyro joint — and yes, there's a “signature pink sauce”
Elyson's food scene just leveled up. Oh My Gyros, a Mediterranean and Greek-inspired spot, is coming to the community in fall 2026, planting its flag at 7070 Elyson Exchange Way. It's the Katy-born chain's first big expansion, and Cypress made the shortlist.
The menu's built for a crowd: beef-and-lamb gyros, chicken platters, the “BLC” beef-lamb-chicken combo, and a much-hyped signature pink sauce, plus catering trays for when it's your turn to feed the block. It's a few months out, but consider your fall lunch plans officially upgraded.

Two Mediterranean openings in one Scoop? Cypress is eating well. Mr. Shawarma — a San Diego-founded shop serving authentic Middle Eastern shawarma — has quietly opened in the Cypress area, soft-launching at 9522 Huffmeister Road, Ste. 25. Owner Mohammed Saab hasn't set a grand-opening date yet, so right now it's the neighborhood's best-kept lunch secret.
The draw: fresh-made wraps, plates, and 100% halal marinated chicken and beef, with vegan alternatives for the table that can never agree on one order. If you've been driving across town for a good shawarma, that road trip just got a lot shorter.

The folks who fund your firetrucks are about to land on your ballot
Here's a local race that actually touches your driveway. Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9 — the taxing entity that bankrolls fire suppression and EMS for the Cy-Fair Fire Department — is weighing its property tax rate, and three of its five commissioner seats are headed to the November ballot.
