🌊 A 70-acre lake just opened in Hockley — and it’s built to vanish
Harris County and developer EMBER cut the ribbon this week on Lake Ember, a 70-acre stormwater lake at The Grand Prairie community in Hockley. It’s the rare amenity designed to look empty: on a normal day it’s open water, walking trails, and a 40-foot spiral “Overlook Hill” built from the dirt they dug out — but when the sky lets loose, it can swallow roughly 420 acre-feet, north of 137 million gallons, before that water ever reaches your street.
It’s a public-private partnership with the Harris County Flood Control District, and it’s the kind of quiet infrastructure that only makes headlines when it fails. Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones and EMBER’s Harry Masterson were on hand for the opening, in a fast-growing corner where homes now run from the mid-$200Ks into the $700Ks.

🐾 The new Bridgeland vet is opening with teddy-bear surgery and an ice cream truck
Bayou Trails Animal Clinic is now seeing patients — the four-legged kind — at 20049 House & Hahl Road, Ste. 600 in the Bridgeland area. It’s locally owned by founder and lead veterinarian Dr. Michelle Bouche, and it started treating cats and dogs on June 22.
The real party lands July 25, when the clinic throws a grand opening from noon to 3 p.m. with an ice cream truck, raffle prizes, a hospital tour, and — yes — “teddy bear surgery” for the kids. Regular hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 7:30 a.m.–6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.–noon, closed Thursday and Sunday.

🥕 Texas’ biggest farmers market is planting a flag on Hwy 6
A new weekly market is about to give the Hwy 6 crowd a reason to skip the grocery store. The Bear Creek Farmers Market launches Tuesday, July 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Skechers Outlet parking lot at 6107 Hwy 6, running every Tuesday evening.
It’s organized by the Your Neighborhood Farmers Market Association, which bills itself as the largest certified farmers market operation in Texas with a roster of more than 1,500 vendors to pull from. Translation: fresh produce, local makers, and family-friendly evenings without a drive downtown. Mark the 21st.

Add another Cy-Fair name to the college-football pipeline: Cypress Ranch defensive lineman Amari Vickerson has committed to SMU. He shared the news around VYPE’s annual Houston City-Wide photoshoot, held this year at the University of Houston.
