From a Cypress Creek dorm room to the NASCAR garage — one grad's 264,000-subscriber climb
Here's your proof that the side project isn't always just a side project. Eric Estepp, a 2016 Cypress Creek High School graduate, has built his YouTube channel "Out of the Groove" past 264,000 subscribers — and in 2026 he started partnering directly with NASCAR on a video series. Not bad for something he launched from a college dorm room in August 2016 while studying Radio, Television and Film at UT Austin.
The climb has been a decade in the making: he interviewed driver Aric Almirola before the 2019 Daytona 500 and even sponsored a car in the 2022 Xfinity Series. "I learned non-linear editing, how to use Premiere, Photoshop, all the basic tools and software, and it was huge," Estepp said of the skills that got him rolling. Primark just opened at Willowbrook — and yes, the T-shirts really are five bucks
If your back-to-school budget just perked up, this one's for you: Primark opened its Willowbrook Mall store on Thursday, July 16, dropping nearly 30,000 square feet of low-price fashion into the old Sears anchor space at 2000 Willowbrook Mall, Houston, 77070. The Irish retail giant is famous for wallet-friendly tags — think $5 T-shirts, $12 denim, and $8 kids' sweatshirts.
It's Primark's 7th Texas store and just the second in Greater Houston after Katy Mills. "Primark opened its newest Texas store at Willowbrook Mall on Thursday, July 16, bringing nearly 30,000 square feet of affordable fashion, children's clothing, accessories, beauty products, home goods and everyday essentials to one of the region's busiest shopping destinations," the announcement noted. Go early if you hate crowds — opening weeks tend to draw a line.

Layne's opened on Fry Road and gave 50 lucky people free chicken fingers for a year
Some grand openings hand out balloons. Layne's Chicken Fingers handed out a full year of free tenders — the first 50 dine-in guests scored exactly that when the Texas favorite opened at 9850 Fry Road, Cypress, 77433 (the former Zaxby's) on Saturday, July 18. Opening-day sales went to a good neighbor, too: a share benefited Cy-Fair High School.
This is the 12th location for operator Masroor Fatany, part of a chain now topping 50 stores. And the food leans hard into the from-scratch thing: "Each tender is made from fresh, never-frozen chicken that is marinated, hand-breaded and cooked to order, giving the fingers their crispy outside and juicy, tender inside." Missed the year-of-free window? The sauce is still worth the trip.

Bridgeland's newest opening is basically a gym — for being wiped out
Call it the anti-workout. Degree Wellness held its grand opening at 20725 Tuckerton Road, Suite 600, Cypress, 77433 on Saturday, July 18 (10 a.m.–7 p.m.), and the whole point is recovery: cryotherapy, cold plunge, infrared sauna, red light therapy, compression massage, oxygen therapy, IV drips, nutrient shots, and NAD+ anti-aging treatments, all in private suites.
The studio "describes itself as a recovery and wellness destination — 'kind of like a gym for recovery, wellness, rejuvenation, instead of workouts.'" Founded in 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida, the multi-state concept is betting Bridgeland-area folks are ready to make bouncing back a routine, not a once-a-year spa splurge. In a 96° July, a cold plunge suddenly sounds less crazy.

A $20 million Home Depot is scouting the Grand Parkway near Elyson
The orange apron may be coming to the fast-growing edge of Cypress. Plans call for a 134,808-square-foot Home Depot on the east side of the Grand Parkway just south of West Road, near the Elyson master-planned community — an estimated $20 million project. Construction is penciled in to begin October 15, 2026, with completion targeted for September 20, 2027.
For a corner of Cypress that's added rooftops faster than retail, a full-size home-improvement store is a real quality-of-life upgrade. As the filing put it, "A full-size home improvement store nearby can change daily convenience for people tackling weekend repairs, landscaping projects, paint runs, appliance needs, storm preparation, contractor jobs and the steady stream of home projects that come with life in a growing master-planned community." File it under "worth the wait."

Citizens for Animal Protection (17555 Katy Freeway, Houston, 77094) hosts DOGust 1st on Saturday, August 1, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., when every dog adoption is fully sponsored — free — and all other pets are 50% off.
