Businesses come and go on Barker Cypress. Primrose School of Barker Cypress has watched a whole generation grow up. This summer the early-education school is celebrating 25 years serving Cypress families — a quarter-century of teary first goodbyes at the door, finger-paint masterpieces on the fridge, and kids who might now be old enough to drop off little ones of their own.

Director Elizabeth Stafford says the milestone is about far more than lesson plans. "We are educating the children, and that's of course one of our top priorities, but also creating that safe environment for the children and their families," she said. The school kicked off the celebration with its annual red, white and blue parade on July 2, and the real bash lands on the official anniversary — August 27 — with treats and activities.

In a corner of Cypress where new rooftops seem to sprout overnight, 25 years in one spot is its own kind of remarkable. If your family has a Primrose story — a teacher who made the tears stop, a kid who learned their letters there — this is the summer to say thanks.

Clear your fall calendar and maybe grab an extra napkin. Oh My Gyros, a Mediterranean and Greek-inspired spot, is coming to Elyson at 7070 Elyson Exchange Way, with staff confirming a fall 2026 opening. The menu leans into the classics — beef and lamb gyros, a chicken platter, and the "BLC" (beef, lamb and chicken combo, for the gloriously indecisive).

The not-so-secret weapon, though, is the house "pink sauce" — the kind of signature condiment that quietly turns a first-timer into a regular. Catering is on the menu too, which means the next Cypress team lunch just got a lot more interesting. Fall can't come fast enough.

There is a new place to let the kids bounce off the walls — literally. Sky Zone Copperfield, a trampoline park packed with high-flying attractions, held its ribbon-cutting on July 9 at 6148 Highway 6 North and is now open for business.

Think wall-to-wall trampolines, family-friendly attractions, and the sweet, sweet promise of a worn-out kid at bedtime. Best of all, it's indoor and air-conditioned — which, on a 102° afternoon, might be the smartest parenting move in Cypress.

Back-to-school shopping can quietly wreck a family budget, and Cy-Fair Helping Hands is stepping in again. The nonprofit's 5th Annual Back to School Bash welcomes hundreds of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD families on Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to noon at Calvary Community Church, 7550 Cherry Park Drive.

Expect free school supplies and a morning built to send kids into the new year ready and confident. Whether your family could use a hand this year or you want to be the neighbor who lends one, this is the good stuff — mark the calendar and spread the word.

Reed Elementary has a new leader, and he didn't come from far. CFISD named Rodney Garcia — most recently assistant principal at Salyards Middle School — the school's next principal, capping a 23-year career spent entirely inside Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.

Garcia started as a third-grade teacher at Bang Elementary back in 2003 and climbed the ladder rung by rung — interventionist, instructional coach, assistant principal. "I am truly honored and humbled to serve as the next principal of Reed Elementary School," he said. He takes over for Karen Richardson, who has moved into an emergency-management role at Tomball ISD.
