Clear a spot in your tender rotation. Layne's Chicken Fingers cut the ribbon July 18 at 9850 Fry Rd. — the Texas-born chain's 12th location, run by local operator Masroor Fatany. The first 50 dine-in guests walked out with free Layne's for a year, and a share of opening-day sales went straight to Cy-Fair High School.

Add another to the trophy case. Cypress-Fairbanks ISD was named a District of Distinction by the Texas Art Education Association — its sixth consecutive year — after exceeding all 14 of the state's performance indicators for a visual arts program.

Behind that award is a lot of kid-hours: CFISD students entered 26+ art contests, logged 316+ volunteer hours, and landed eight entries in the Texas Capitol Youth Art Month Contest and the TASA Exhibit. Not bad for a district that keeps quietly stacking wins.

Some good news for a fast-growing corner of town: Memorial Hermann Cypress celebrated the opening of its third cardiac catheterization lab, expanding advanced heart and stroke care as the area keeps booming. The milestone landed the same week the hospital earned a 2026 Platinum Performance Achievement Award for heart-attack care.

Translation: faster, closer, more capable emergency heart care without a drive to the Medical Center. The kind of quiet infrastructure win a growing community feels for years.
