Good morning, Cypress. 🌤️ Friday hands us a merciful break — “only” 96° today, which around here practically counts as a cold front. We've got a Cypress woman whose totally normal-looking EKG nearly sent her home mid-heart-attack, a radio station that wants your blood (in the nicest possible way), and a fall race series ready to pry the kids off the couch. We're topping out near 96° under mostly sunny skies, though a heat index around 107° still means business by mid-afternoon. A stray 20% shower is lurking overnight, but nothing that'll wreck your Friday plans. Hydrate early, park in the shade, and enjoy a high that starts with a 9 instead of a 10 while it lasts (Saturday nudges right back to 97°).

One April morning, 52-year-old Sharica Greene woke up with chest pressure, cold sweats, a headache, and shortness of breath. When it kept getting worse, she called 911 and landed at St. Luke's Health–The Vintage Hospital, where the first EKG came back looking perfectly normal — the kind of reading that sends a lot of people home. Interventional cardiologist Dr. Nidal Buheis wasn't satisfied, kept digging, and found a 99% blockage in the LAD, the heart's main artery. He had a stent in within 30 minutes of her arrival.

Buheis traced the trouble to a high homocysteine level quietly inflaming her arteries; Greene spent two days in the hospital and now manages it with a year of blood thinners plus diet and exercise. His message for the rest of us is blunt: “You are never too young for a heart attack” — report the weird symptoms, and get screened for cholesterol and diabetes, especially with a family history. Hers is simpler: “He saved my life that day. He listened.”

Summer is brutal on the local blood supply, so 106.9/107.5 The Eagle and Houston Methodist are teaming up for two community blood drives, and the Cy-Fair area is right in the mix. First up: Thursday, July 30, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital (Women's & Children's Pavilion Atrium, 1st floor), 18220 State Highway 249. Round two: Saturday, August 1, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at the George H.W. Bush Community Center, Room 119, 6827 Cypresswood Dr. in Spring.

Roll up a sleeve and you'll walk out with an Eagle Blood Drive T-shirt (while supplies last) and a shot at Eagle Fest tickets — not a bad haul for something your body remakes in a few weeks. Appointments are encouraged, so register ahead through Houston Methodist. It's the rare good deed that's also an excuse to sit in the AC for 20 minutes.

Go ahead and pencil in some fall Sundays. Registration is open for the Healthy Kids Running Series in Cypress — five straight Sundays at 4 p.m. (Nov. 15, 22, 29, Dec. 6 and Dec. 13) at the D. Bradley McWilliams YMCA at Cypress Creek, 19915 State Highway 249. It's built for kids from Pre-K through eighth grade, and every runner crosses a real finish line.

“This is about building healthy habits and confidence, one race at a time,” said community coordinator Alyson White. The full series runs $48.70 (or $16.90 for a single-day walk-up), and signing up by Oct. 25 shaves off $5. You can register over at RunSignup — file it under “future you will thank present you” once the weather finally breaks.

Add one more pin to Elyson's fast-filling map: Cellular Sales, an independently owned Verizon retailer, is “coming soon” to the Cypress community. The tip comes from a state licensing filing spotted by Community Impact, so this one's still early — no exact street address or opening date just yet.

It's a phones-and-gadgets shop, not exactly a taco truck, we know. But in a neighborhood still sprouting rooftops by the week, every new storefront is one less reason to fight US 290 for a screen protector. We'll flag it again the moment a date (and a door) actually shows up.
