Good morning, Cypress. 🥵 Yesterday we told you an advisory was probably coming. It came, and then it brought a bigger friend — today is an Extreme Heat Warning, not an advisory, and the heat index is aiming at 114°. So today's issue is built for the indoors: a Wisconsin burger legend filed papers on Fry Road, Bridgeland's veterans park finally has a construction date after twelve years of bake sales, and there's a magic show and a bubble party at the library that cost exactly nothing. 🥵 Today's weather: Cypress, this is the real thing. The National Weather Service has an Extreme Heat Warning up from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a high near 102° and a heat index climbing as high as 114° — the kind of afternoon where a parked car turns dangerous in minutes, not hours. Rain chances are zero until after dark, when there's about a 30% shot at showers or a thunderstorm before 10 p.m. Overnight only falls to 82°. Move anything outdoors to before 10 a.m., check the back seat every single time you park, and go knock on the door of the neighbor who swears they don't need the AC on. That last one is the whole assignment today.

Culver's just filed papers for its first Cypress location
The ButterBurger is coming to 9265 Fry Road. Construction documents filed with the state lay out a 4,393-square-foot ground-up build with a drive-thru, an estimated $1.85 million construction cost, and a work window running Sept. 21, 2026 through June 25, 2027. It would be the first Culver's in Cypress, dropped right next to the Bridgeland side of Fry.
Two things worth knowing before you get excited. First, that timeline means custard in mid-2027, not this fall — nearly a year of build for a burger stand, which tells you how serious the drive-thru layout is. Second, the name is a trick: the butter in ButterBurger isn't in the beef, it's on the toasted bun. The frozen custard, made fresh in-store daily, is the part people actually drive across town for.

Bridgeland's veterans park finally has a start date — twelve years later
In 2014, a Bridgeland resident named Walt Bohn — an Army veteran and an engineer — sat down and drew up a design for a community veterans park because nobody else had. His neighbors formed The Bridgeland Community Supports Veterans Inc. in February 2015 and spent the next decade on Memorial Day services, Veterans Day gatherings, fundraiser races and the unglamorous work of raising money a little at a time.
That park now has a construction calendar. Filed documents describe a 28,200-square-foot public space near Creekside Crossing Drive, with granite monuments honoring all six branches of the armed forces plus sidewalks, parking, benches, landscaping and irrigation — a $1.2 million build inside a broader $1.5–1.7 million project, designed by BGE Inc. for Harris County Water Control and Improvement District No. 157. Work runs Oct. 15, 2026 to Feb. 12, 2027. Twelve years of bake sales and 5Ks, and it finally has an address.

A 1962 family recipe book just opened its second Cypress storefront
Carmelita's Kitchen & Tequila soft-opened its second location on July 21 at 8604 Hwy. 6 in the Copperfield area, adding to the original along Fry Road. The restaurant traces back to 1962, when Alberto and Carmen Heredia started it and named it for the family matriarch. Their grandson, Chayane Heredia, is the one who brought it to Houston.
Copperfield gets the fast-casual version — order at the counter, sit down faster. The menu keeps the things that made the name: enchiladas, tacos, chile rellenos, quesadillas, plus brisket quesabirria tacos, braised sherry enchiladas, shrimp and crab enchiladas, and the wet burrito. Mason Road is getting extended — with a bridge over Cypress Creek
If you've ever wondered why the roads in this part of Cy-Fair always feel one subdivision behind, here's the county trying to get ahead of it. Harris County Precinct 3 has launched a design study — roughly $25 million in county funding for the study alone — to extend Mason Road from Jack Road to North Bridgeland Lake Parkway, a full four-lane section that would stitch Bridgeland, Richfield Ranch and Dunham Pointe together south of Hwy. 290. It includes a bridge over Cypress Creek.
"We wanted to start the process now to make sure that we were as early in the game as possible," said Eric Heppen, director of engineering for the Precinct 3 commissioner's office. He expects completion in three to four years, and the total project cost will run higher than the study, shared with other entities including the Toro District. Translation: this is not a fix for your commute this year. It's a fix for the commute your kid will have.

Cy Falls has the most feared defender in Northwest Houston, and he's only a junior
Kaden McCarty has piled up more than 110 career tackles off the edge for the Cy Falls Eagles, and he committed to Texas A&M back in December — as a class of 2027 prospect, which is the detail most people miss. He isn't leaving after this season. Cy-Fair gets two more years of him.
VYPE put him in its season spotlight this week, and the framing is telling: his stated goal isn't a highlight reel or a ranking, it's dragging Cy Falls back to the top of the district and into the playoff conversation. That's a senior's goal being carried by a junior. Kickoff for the 2026 season is a few weeks out — this is the name to learn before then.
