An 11-year-old's wreck in Cypress Ridge just landed e-bikes on seven districts' desks
On June 6, an 11-year-old in the Cypress Ridge subdivision tried to steer around a stopped car at an intersection and rode straight into oncoming traffic. He was treated at the scene. Six weeks later, that crash is the reason three constables — Harris County Pct. 4's Mark Herman, Harris County Pct. 5's Terry Albritton, and Fort Bend Pct. 1's Chad Norvell — sent letters to seven school districts asking them to ban high-powered e-motorcycles from school property before the first bell.
The physics are the whole argument: "a stopped vehicle may block a rider's view of approaching traffic, while the speed and acceleration of an electric bicycle can leave both the rider and an oncoming driver with little time to react," the Pct. 4 Constable's Office said. Worth knowing for Cy-Fair parents — Katy, Spring and Klein are among the districts named, and CFISD isn't one of the seven. It went its own way back in June, sending a letter straight to parents.

She was photographing houses for the HOA. Deputies say he punched her.
A woman photographing homes for HOA compliance in the 15000 block of Harris Canyon Lane ended up in an area hospital, and 21-year-old Vladislav Lantsman ended up charged with assault, according to Harris County Pct. 4. "He hit me in the face," she told ABC13. "I had never seen this man until this incident."
Lantsman tells it differently — he says he thought she was recording him for social media and that he only "hook[ed] onto her car and push[ed] her phone away to keep her from recording." A judge will sort out which version holds up; he's due in court Aug. 7. Until then, file this under things nobody expects to happen in their own subdivision.

A Cypress family lost both parents Friday morning
A married couple in their 70s were found dead inside their home on Campos Drive early Friday. Their adult son, who lived with them, found them and called for help. Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators are handling the case as a murder-suicide.
Their names have not been released, and there is nothing about this to explain or unpack — only a family and a street full of neighbors who will be carrying it for a long while. If you know them, the most useful thing you can offer this weekend is your presence and your patience. Cy Ranch went 39-9 and to state — and the best player on the floor is only a junior
Last fall the Cypress Ranch volleyball program did something it had never done in its history: it reached the UIL State Tournament, closing the year 39-9 with wins over The Woodlands and two-time defending state champ Grand Oaks along the way. VYPE Houston just slotted the Lady Mustangs at No. 6 in its 2026 preseason rankings, and the reason is walking the halls of Cy Ranch as an eleventh grader.
Junior Sade Bello — already committed to Kansas — put up nearly 400 kills and 132 digs, and she's back alongside setter Payton Tompkins and libero Kaelyn Harvey under head coach Collea McKinney. The 2026 mantra the team picked tells you how they feel about last season: "Powered by Purpose." Translation for the rest of District 16-6A: they did not come back satisfied.

If you've been driving past 16518 House & Hahl Road wondering when the lights come back on, we have news and it's a mixed bag. Turquoise Wine Bar — the concept taking over the old Hidden Cellar space — has pushed its opening from August to a soft opening Sept. 21-26 and a grand opening on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Construction, as construction does, took longer than anybody drew up.
Owners Tara and Neil Cruz aren't strangers to the room. "We are excited to be taking over The Hidden Cellar, as we have been regulars the last 10 years so it is special to us as well," they said. The plan: rotating monthly wine lists, flights sorted by taste profile, charcuterie, flatbreads, and paninis — plus a "Cypress Wine Club" whose members get first crack at those soft-opening seats.

Your fire board just eyed $71,533 of hose and put three of its own seats on the ballot
Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9 is the board that funds and governs the Cy-Fair Fire Department, which is to say it's the reason a truck shows up when you dial 911. This week it did two things worth your attention: it worked through the fire chief's annual self-evaluation and future goals, and it took up a $71,533 purchase of new fire hose equipment.
It also unanimously called a Nov. 3 election for three of its five commissioner seats — a 4-0 vote, with Commissioner Rob Paiva absent. The seats currently belong to Paiva, Naressa MacKinnon and Cameron Dickey. ESD races use a "singular list" format, meaning you pick your top three candidates rather than voting race by race, and almost nobody knows that until they're standing in the booth. Now you do.

This year's Chamber fundraiser requires rented shoes
The Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce has landed on a networking format that beats another ballroom lunch: the Cy-Fair Ten Pin Challenge, Friday, Aug. 28, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Copperfield Bowl, 15615 Glen Chase Drive. Bowling starts at 1.
A team of four runs $425 and covers three games, shoe rental and a meal, and the field caps at 32 teams — so if your office has been looking for a reason to leave early on a Friday, that's a hard deadline with a scoreboard attached. Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital is underwriting the whole thing.
