When a banker reportedly told Jasmine Chida, “I don’t think someone like you would be able to handle it,” she did the most Cypress thing imaginable: sold her car and opened a gelato shop anyway. SweetCup Gelato & Sorbet Originale is now scooping made-from-scratch Italian gelato on Tuckerton Road — and Chida didn’t fake the accent, she trained at an actual gelato university in Italy.

Copperfield’s favorite Thai spot went dark overnight — but don’t write the obituary yet
HOMM Thai Bistro, the 4.9-star charmer at 15556 FM 529 (the old Bananas Thai space), abruptly closed less than a year after opening. A since-deleted social post pointed at a landlord fire-code issue, with the owners insisting they’re “actively working with the landlord and fire marshal to resolve this.”

Another builder just planted a flag in Bridgeland — and it’s chasing first-time buyers
If it feels like Bridgeland adds a builder every time you blink, you’re not wrong. Empire Homes is the latest to join Creekland Village, with one- and two-story homes running roughly 1,500 to 2,800 square feet, starting in the mid-$300,000s. Construction begins this summer, with a model-home grand opening this fall.

Division president Tracy Brown says the goal is to “expand access to this community for both entry-level and move-up buyers,” which in 2026 Cypress translates to a master-planned address a first-time buyer can actually reach.
