Northwest Houston Neighbor

Daily news and events from Cy-Fair and our neighbors

ISSUE #5  ·  MONDAY, MAY 25, 2026

Good morning, neighbors. On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the men and women who gave everything in service to our country. It is a quiet Monday in Cypress — most offices and the library are closed today — but there is a meaningful ceremony happening this afternoon at Bear Creek Pioneers Park if you would like to take a moment to remember. We also have a full week of local news to share: graduation season kicks off tomorrow, a beloved cheesecake shop will close its doors for the last time, and a fresh new wine bar is on its way to the neighborhood.

Today's stories

Graduation season starts this week — 10 CFISD schools march at the Berry Center

This is the week our neighborhood has been building toward all year. Beginning Tuesday evening, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD will hold ten consecutive high school graduation ceremonies at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress Road), running through Friday, May 30. Cypress Springs and Cypress Woods kick things off on Tuesday, followed by Cypress Park and Bridgeland on Wednesday. Thursday brings Langham Creek, Cy-Fair High School, and Cypress Creek, while Cypress Falls, Cypress Lakes, and Cypress Ranch close out the weekend on Friday.

Each graduating student receives eight tickets for family and friends. If you are heading to the Berry Center this week, plan ahead — parking fills quickly for the evening ceremonies. Congratulations to every Class of 2026 senior and their families across our community.

Why it matters here: More than a dozen CFISD campuses will have graduates walking this week. If you live near the Berry Center, expect extra traffic on Barker Cypress Road Tuesday through Friday evenings.

All the Crave Cheesecakes will close its doors May 30

A Cypress dessert institution is wrapping up its final days. All the Crave Cheesecakes, the beloved shop on Barker Cypress Road founded by Marlene and Darrel Farmer, announced it will permanently close on May 30. The Farmers turned Marlene's baking hobby into a business, building a loyal following around their rotating menu of mini cheesecakes — including flavors like lemon lavender, cookie butter, and carrot cake — along with keto-friendly and gluten-free options. The shop is currently accepting walk-in orders only through its last day.

If you have been meaning to stop in, this week is your last chance. All the Crave Cheesecakes is located at 11901 Barker Cypress Road, Suite 5. We wish Marlene and Darrel every good thing in whatever comes next.

Turquoise Wine Bar is bringing a fresh pour to the old Hidden Cellar spot

Good news for neighbors in the Blackhorse Ranch area: the long-beloved space at 16518 House and Hahl Road — home for years to The Hidden Cellar Wine Bar — is getting a new life this summer. Turquoise Wine Bar, a woman-owned boutique concept from Arizona, is opening its first Texas location there with franchisees Tara and Neil Cruz steering the Cypress project. The doors are expected to open in August 2026, with a menu focused on small-lot wines, flights, bottles to go, small plates, and live entertainment.

The Turquoise concept was launched by Jen Sinconis and Laura Hernandez with an emphasis on community-focused programming — which sounds right at home in our corner of northwest Harris County. We will have more details as the opening approaches.

Why it matters here: The House and Hahl corridor has been a neighborhood gathering spot for years. A thoughtfully run wine bar moving into that space is good news for the area.

Applebee's is filling the long-empty Fuddrucker's building in Copperfield

That vacant restaurant building on Highway 6 in Copperfield — the one that used to be Fuddrucker's — finally has a new tenant. Plans now call for an Applebee's Neighborhood Grill + Bar to move into the space, replacing an earlier proposal that had pointed to a Fuzzy's Taco Shop for the same location. The familiar casual-dining chain would bring a well-known neighborhood option back to a stretch of Highway 6 that has been without a sit-down anchor there for a while.

No opening date has been announced yet, but the permit activity suggests the project is moving forward. We will keep an eye on the timeline and let you know when a grand opening is in sight.

Barkley's Bookshelf celebrates four years and 25,000 books in Northwest Houston

On a day set aside to honor service, it feels right to spotlight a Cypress nonprofit that has been quietly doing something remarkable. Barkley's Bookshelf — founded March 14, 2022 — marks its fourth anniversary this spring having distributed more than 25,000 free books to underserved children across Northwest Houston. The organization's mission is straightforward and powerful: make sure every child becomes a book owner, not just a reader, by bringing books to young people where they already are.

In four years the group has reached more than 13,200 young readers, launched a Summer Reading Program, and installed a reading nook at the PTSD Foundation of America's Camp Hope. If you are looking for a local cause to support this summer, Barkley's Bookshelf is worth a look.

Why it matters here: Northwest Houston has a large and growing population of children who lack access to books at home. Four years of consistent, neighbor-driven effort has made a real dent in that.
