Today’s stories
It’s Election Day: the Texas primary runoff is today
Today is the Texas primary runoff, and polls across Harris County are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Because the county uses countywide voting, you can cast your ballot at any of the 162 vote centers — no matter where in the county you live — just bring a photo ID.
There’s plenty on the ballot for Cy-Fair voters. The marquee race is the Republican U.S. Senate runoff between Sen. John Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton, and both parties are settling their nominee for Harris County Judge — Democrats choose between Annise Parker and Letitia Plummer, while Republicans pick between Orlando Sanchez and Warren Howell. Statewide runoffs for lieutenant governor and attorney general round out the slate.
Why it matters here: runoffs draw notoriously low turnout, so each Cy-Fair vote carries outsized weight in deciding who lands on the November ballot.

Harris County adds $19M for public safety — including a new Cy-Fair sheriff’s substation
Harris County Commissioners Court has approved an additional $19 million for capital improvements across eight law-enforcement facilities run by the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Marshal. For our side of the county, the headline is a new Sheriff’s District 6 patrol substation planned at 17154 Butte Creek Road.
The money is meant to keep projects already in the pipeline moving, from facility upgrades to new construction.
Why it matters here: a closer, modern patrol base in northwest Harris County can translate into faster response times for the neighborhoods District 6 covers.

Lajita Bakery is coming to Cypress
A new Lajita Bakery is planned for Cypress along FM 529 near Fry Road, bringing fresh Mexican breads and pan dulce, custom cakes, and a taqueria and carniceria all under one roof. It’s another sign of how quickly the FM 529 corridor is filling in.
An opening date hasn’t been announced yet, but the concept promises a one-stop neighborhood shop for everything from morning conchas to fresh-cut meat and tacos.

Peach Cobbler Factory is headed to Barker Cypress
The dessert chain Peach Cobbler Factory is opening a location on Barker Cypress, adding to the area’s growing roster of sweets shops. The menu leans into warm, made-to-order cobblers alongside banana pudding, cinnamon rolls and ice cream.
Why it matters here: it’s a sweet new option on the Barker Cypress strip for after-dinner runs and weekend treats.

Sephora and Timberland are joining Houston Premium Outlets
Two well-known names — Sephora and Timberland — are set to open at Houston Premium Outlets off Hwy. 290 in Cypress, continuing a steady stream of new tenants at the 290 shopping hub.
Why it matters here: more recognizable brands close to home means fewer drives into the city for a beauty run or a new pair of boots.
