📌 The Big Stories
Cy-Fair ISD stares down a $67.4M budget gap. Texas' third-largest district is projecting a $67.4 million shortfall for the 2026–27 fiscal year, CFO Karen Smith told trustees at a May 21 budget workshop. Even so, the board signed off on a $500 staff stipend and a bigger district contribution to employee healthcare for next year. Read more →
Cap-and-gown season takes over the Berry Center. Cy-Fair ISD seniors are walking the stage May 27–30, with ceremonies running back-to-back across all the district's high schools. If you're heading over this weekend, plan for traffic and arrive early. Read more →
The 290 corridor's biggest fix breaks ground. The long-awaited Greenhouse Road–US 290 underpass — an ~$88.5 million project tunneling beneath the Union Pacific tracks and the highway — is officially underway, promising to untangle one of NW Houston's worst chokepoints between Towne Lake, Skinner Road and US 290. NW Houston keeps growing up and out. Beyond the Greenhouse Road dig, HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest is finishing a $100 million patient tower — 53 new beds plus expanded critical care — opening this spring, and the Cy-Fair Fire Department is preparing to break ground on Station 15 near Settlers Village, the first of eight planned new stations to keep pace with the area's boom. Texas Roadhouse is almost here. The first full-service Texas Roadhouse in Cypress opens Monday, June 1 at 22020 West Road, near Bridgeland and Fairfield.
