Today's stories

Wings 'N More Express is now open on Barker Cypress

Northwest Houston has a new spot for wings — Wings 'N More Express opened its doors June 1 off Barker Cypress Road, bringing the beloved Houston-area chain's quick-service concept to our corner of town. Known for their signature bone-in and boneless wings tossed in a rotating lineup of house sauces, the express format means you can grab a batch without a long wait.

Wings 'N More has been a Houston staple for decades, and this Barker Cypress location puts it squarely in the heart of Cy-Fair dining — giving the neighborhood another solid option for game-day or weeknight pickup.

Hurricane season is here — and Harris County has a game plan

June 1 officially marked the start of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, and while forecasters are calling for a less active year than recent ones, Harris County emergency officials aren't taking any chances. County leaders are urging all residents to update their emergency kits, sign up for emergency alerts, and have a household plan in place before a storm develops.

The memories of Harvey, Beryl, and Ike are never far away for Northwest Houston neighbors. Getting ready now — before the peak August–October window — is infinitely easier than scrambling when a tropical system is already in the Gulf. A few hours of prep this week is worth it.

Harris County's 480 license plate readers: renewed, despite pushback

Harris County commissioners voted May 28 to renew the Sheriff's Office contract for its network of 480 license plate reader cameras positioned across the county — including inside many of the HOA-managed communities and MUD districts common throughout Cy-Fair and Northwest Houston. The vote came despite vocal opposition from some residents concerned about privacy and data retention policies.

If you live in a gated community or a neighborhood with an HOA entrance, there's a good chance one of these cameras is already scanning your plate each time you come home. The Sheriff's Office says the technology is used strictly for criminal investigations — but the county has faced unresolved questions about how long data is kept and who has access to it.

Stageworks Theatre is bringing Seussical the Musical to Northwest Houston this summer

Northwest Houston's own Stageworks Theatre has announced the full cast for its summer production of Seussical the Musical — the beloved show that brings Dr. Seuss's most iconic characters to life on stage. The production will run at the company's Grant Road venue, with Horton, the Cat in the Hat, and the Whos of Whoville making their way to our corner of the city.

Stageworks has been building community theater in Northwest Houston for years, and Seussical is the kind of family show that's perfect for summer — especially for young readers who grew up with these characters. Keep an eye on their schedule as tickets become available.
