Today's stories
Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux opens Monday on the Towne Lake Boardwalk
After months of watching the former Sam's Boat space sit quiet while crews worked behind the scenes, the wait is nearly over: Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux will officially open Monday, June 8, at the Boardwalk at Towne Lake. The Louisiana-born sports bar and restaurant — known for its Cajun-leaning menu and game-day energy — brings a big new gathering spot to the Cypress waterfront.
A grand-opening celebration kicks off at 10 AM with a ribbon cutting, beignets and coffee, and giveaways that include a shot at free Walk-On's for a year. Why it matters here: the Boardwalk has steadily filled in as one of Cypress's go-to hangouts, and a high-profile anchor like Walk-On's gives neighbors one more reason to make an evening of it by the lake.

Eden Coffee & Tea is brewing up plans for the Jersey Village area
A new, Latin-owned coffee shop is on the way to our corner of Northwest Houston. Eden Coffee & Tea is planning to open near Jersey Village at 9720 Jones Road, with owners targeting the end of June — though, as with any new build-out, they note the date could shift.
The shop joins a growing lineup of independent, locally owned cafés putting down roots around Cy-Fair. Why it matters here: every new neighborhood coffee spot is a fresh place to meet a friend, get a little work done, or simply support a family business chasing a dream close to home.

Trigger Analog Film Lab brings film developing back to Cypress
Film photography's comeback now has a local home. Trigger Analog Film Lab, a home-based boutique operation founded by Tien Nguyen, opened May 19 in Cypress, offering developing and scanning services for the growing number of shutterbugs who've rediscovered shooting on actual film.
It's the kind of niche, passion-driven small business that gives a community character. Why it matters here: as more young photographers and hobbyists trade their phones for vintage cameras, having a nearby lab means no more mailing rolls across the country and waiting weeks to see your shots.

Romance bookstore X&O Books is opening in Cypress this summer
Book lovers, take note: X&O Books, a new independent bookstore focused on romance, is gearing up for a summer opening in Cypress. Founder and owner Kara French confirmed the shop is on track to open its doors in July.
Independent bookstores have been having a real moment, and a genre-specific shop adds something distinctive to the local retail mix. Why it matters here: a cozy, community-minded bookstore is more than a place to buy a paperback — it's a spot for author events, book clubs, and the kind of browsing that keeps neighbors lingering and chatting.

Harris County ESD 9 sets a November election for the Cy-Fair fire board
There's a local election shaping up that's easy to overlook but worth knowing about. The board of Harris County Emergency Services District No. 9 — the district that funds the Cy-Fair Fire Department — voted 4-0 on May 28 to move its next commissioner election to November 3 rather than waiting until May 2027. Three of the five board seats will be on the ballot.
ESD commissioners make decisions about funding, equipment, and service levels for one of the largest combined volunteer fire departments in the country. Why it matters here: these low-profile boards have a direct hand in how quickly help arrives when you call 911, so an open seat — and your vote — carries real weight.
