Today's stories
Traders Village brings 2026 FIFA World Cup watch parties to our doorstep
The world's biggest sporting event is coming to Houston this summer, and you won't have to fight downtown traffic to feel the energy. From June 11 through July 19, Traders Village Houston will host a 2026 World Cup Watch Party series at its marketplace on North Eldridge Road near Cypress Ridge High School, turning summer weekends into a mix of big-screen soccer, food, rides, and shopping.
Matches will play on the big screen every Saturday and Sunday, layered into the family-friendly fairgrounds atmosphere Traders Village is known for. Why it matters here: Houston is one of the official host cities for World Cup 26, and this is a free, low-key way for Cy-Fair families to be part of the excitement close to home.

Bragging rights for Cy-Fair: a team of Smith Middle School students took first place at the 2026 Destination Imagination Global Finals in Kansas City, Missouri, competing against the best creative problem-solvers from around the world. The team, Stellar Squad, won the "Win It Big" challenge — where students design and perform their own game show — with a clever staging of the inner workings of the brain as it interacts with social media.
The group also earned the Renaissance Award for outstanding design, engineering, and performance. Why it matters here: behind that trophy are seven local kids — Nikhita Raavi, Anshi and Anvi Putcha, Anagha Vemuru, Stuti Vittal, Bethel Binoj, and Trisha Arun — and a whole lot of CFISD coaching and parent support that paid off on a global stage.
National Outlet Shopping Day returns to Houston Premium Outlets
Mark your calendars, bargain hunters: National Outlet Shopping Day is back at Houston Premium Outlets in Cypress, and this year it stretches across four days, June 11–14. The Simon-run event pairs the outlets' everyday discounts with extra deals, exclusive offers, giveaways, and entertainment.
It's the fifth year for the nationwide celebration, which Simon centers across the country mark together each summer. Why it matters here: the outlets are one of Cypress's biggest retail draws, and a few days of stacked savings is a good excuse to knock out some early back-to-school or summer-travel shopping.

An AC Hotel by Marriott breaks ground at CityCentre
West Houston is getting another place to put up out-of-town guests. Construction has begun on the AC Hotel by Marriott CityCentre Houston, a six-story, 153-room hotel planned for 10752 Town and Country Way in the heart of the CityCentre mixed-use district.
The roughly $19 million project is expected to wrap in late 2027. Why it matters here: CityCentre is a popular dining and shopping destination just down the road, and a new hotel adds rooms for visiting family, business travelers, and the steady flow of folks drawn to this corner of West Houston.

Andy's Kitchen moves in under one roof with Andy's Bar & Grill off 290
A local burger favorite has a new address. Andy's Kitchen has relocated to share a roof with Andy's Bar & Grill just off Hwy. 290, bringing the two Andy's concepts together in one spot.
The move consolidates the kitchen's from-scratch burgers and comfort food into the bar-and-grill space. Why it matters here: it's a small but welcome bit of news for regulars — one stop now for the food and the full bar-and-grill experience.
