Today's stories

CFISD quietly consolidates special education programs, affecting ~250 students

Cy-Fair ISD is consolidating some of its special education programs, joining a growing number of Texas school districts making similar adjustments as student populations shift. About 250 students across multiple elementary campuses are affected — and notably, families received private notifications rather than any public announcement from the district.

Parents and University of Houston education experts are raising concerns about the timeline: the changes are set to take effect before the new school year begins in roughly three months. CFISD says no special education teaching jobs will be cut. Why it matters here: if your child receives special education services in CFISD, now is the time to contact your campus directly and ask how placements may change this fall.

Harris County Fire Marshal seizes illegally stored fireworks in Cypress-area neighborhood

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Prevention Bureau executed a search warrant at a residential property on June 3 after receiving a tip about the illegal storage and sale of fireworks. With Independence Day less than a month away, fire officials are urging residents to use only permitted, legal fireworks — and to remember that many parts of unincorporated Harris County have restrictions on when and where they can be set off. Why it matters here: if you spot something suspicious in your neighborhood, the Fire Marshal’s tip line is the right call.

Check your home cameras: 321,000 Wyze Solar Cam Pan units recalled for fire risk

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of approximately 321,000 Wyze Solar Cam Pan units sold in the United States, citing a lithium-ion battery defect that poses a fire and explosion risk. Six units have already caught fire and six consumers have reported burns.

If you have a Wyze Solar Cam Pan — a popular outdoor security camera — stop using it and contact Wyze for a refund. The cameras were widely sold through major retailers and directly through Wyze’s website. Why it matters here: many Cy-Fair homeowners use these for outdoor monitoring, and it’s worth a quick check of your camera model before summer storm season ramps up.
