Today's stories

Desi District brings Indian cuisine and groceries to Cypress

There is a new one-stop spot for Indian food in Cypress. Desi District held its grand opening on June 5 at 7214 Fry Road, pairing a full grocery store with an in-house Desi Eatery serving chaat, tandoori, hot curries and more.

The combo means you can grab a hot meal and stock the pantry with spices and staples in the same trip. Why it matters here: it adds another locally run, culturally rich option to the growing Fry Road corridor — and a fresh reason to skip the chain takeout this week.

Pho 77 opens on Greenhouse Road with a lion-dance welcome

Owners Nykhol Phan and John Vu have opened Pho 77, a new Vietnamese restaurant at 1922 Greenhouse Road, serving up pho and other Vietnamese favorites. The grand opening on June 6 featured a traditional lion dance and a run of opening-week specials.

It is the kind of family-run spot that tends to become a neighborhood regular. Why it matters here: another independent, owner-operated kitchen on this side of town — and a good excuse to go find your new favorite bowl of pho.

X&O Books, an independent romance bookstore, is coming to Cypress

Romance readers, take note: X&O Books, a new independent bookstore focused on the genre, is gearing up for a summer opening in Cypress. Founder and owner Kara French is setting up shop at 25712 Hwy 290, with doors expected to open in July.

Independent bookstores have been making a comeback, and a niche, community-minded shop gives local readers a place to browse and gather. Why it matters here: it is a locally owned small business betting on Cypress — worth keeping on your radar for an opening-day visit.

Latin-owned Eden Coffee & Tea is on the way to Jersey Village

A new coffee shop is brewing on the Jersey Village edge of our coverage area. Eden Coffee & Tea plans to open by the end of June at 9720 Jones Road, with handcrafted drinks and a space designed for people to connect, work and study.

The Latin-owned shop is going for a warm, welcoming neighborhood vibe rather than a grab-and-go counter. Why it matters here: another independent coffee option for remote workers and students looking for a comfortable spot that is not a national chain.
