Cypress, your weekend just got a caffeine upgrade. The sunshine-yellow-and-white coffee chain La La Land Cafe opens its first Cypress shop today, June 27, at The Boardwalk at Towne Lake (9935 Barker Cypress Rd., Ste. 130) — and they’re not tiptoeing in. There’s an 8 a.m. ribbon cutting, doors stay open until 7 p.m., and every drink and toast is 50% off all day to celebrate.
This is the fourth stand-alone La La Land in the Houston area, and it comes with a drive-thru for the days you can’t be bothered to park. The menu leans fun and photogenic — espresso drinks, the La La Latte, Banana Cloud and Strawberry Cloud lattes, matcha squared, plus sweet and savory toasts. On a rainy Saturday with half-price lattes on the line, consider this your sign to make the Boardwalk your first stop.

A College Station wing legend just planted a double drive-thru on Barker Cypress
Some chains chase trends; this one’s been perfecting the same thing since Reagan was in office. Wings ’N More Express has officially opened on Barker Cypress Road (8722 Barker Cypress Rd., Cypress), bringing the brand’s award-winning buffalo wings, hand-breaded Texas Tenders, burgers, wraps and salads to Cy-Fair — with eleven signature sauces to argue over and a double drive-thru so the soccer-team dinner rush doesn’t ruin your night.
The roots run deep: the original Wings ’N More started in College Station in 1987, and the Express format is its faster, drive-thru-friendly cousin. Open late, too — until midnight Thursday through Saturday. File this one under “new weeknight default.”

A cult “eat-clean” bowl shop picked Cypress for its fifth Houston act
For everyone who started the summer with good intentions and a freezer full of taquitos: reinforcements are coming. Flower Child, the holistic restaurant beloved for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free salads, bowls and wraps, is headed to Cypress at 14611 Mason Road, Ste. 85A, according to a state licensing filing. It’ll be the chain’s fifth location in the Houston area.
An opening date is still TBD — this one’s an early heads-up, not a “go today” — so consider it a placeholder on your map between the wing joint and the half-price lattes. Balance, neighbors. It’s all about balance.

Cy-Fair’s barn kids can now run for royalty — and the crown comes with scholarship money
This one’s for the 4-H and FFA families who spend their mornings at the show barn, not the splash pad. Registration is open now for the 2026 Harris County Fair & Rodeo Pageant & Royalty Contest, and organizers are quick to say it’s no beauty pageant — it’s a leadership competition. Kids from kindergarten through 12th grade compete for King, Queen, Prince and Princess titles judged on public speaking, advocacy for agriculture, and plain old confidence, with scholarship money on the line for top finishers.
The contest itself is September 13 (early entry is $50 through August 29), but here’s the local kicker: the whole effort is part of rebuilding a county fair that Hurricane Harvey washed out in 2017 — and a permanent fairgrounds is now in the works on Telge Road in Tomball. For a Cy-Fair kid who’s more comfortable with a show heifer than a microphone, this is a real stage.

On June 22, the CFISD Board of Trustees adopted a 2026–27 budget of $1,246,972,629 — yes, $1.25 billion — even as the district stares down a projected $80.9 million deficit. Superintendent Dr. Douglas Killian’s blunt summary: a historic $8.5 billion state investment in public schools still hasn’t kept pace with the rising cost of keeping the lights on and the buses running.
What it means for your household: every full-time employee gets a guaranteed one-time $500 stipend, teachers keep their step raises, and bus service stays for every kid in the boundary. The bigger checks — a $2,000 stipend for hourly and paraprofessional staff, $1,000 for everyone else — are contingent on a 12-cent tax-rate election (VATRE) this November. Translation: the staff raises that actually move the needle are now, quite literally, on your ballot.
