🍢 Texas Roadhouse sets a Cypress opening date
Get the rolls ready — Texas Roadhouse plans to open its Cypress location at 22020 West Road on June 1, near the Bridgeland and Fairfield area. The chain is hiring around 250 servers, cooks, hosts and managers ahead of the debut.
🚧 Greenhouse Road–US 290 underpass breaks ground
Relief is on the way for one of our most congested corridors. Officials broke ground May 19 on a six-lane underpass connecting Greenhouse Road to Skinner Road beneath the Union Pacific railroad near US-290 — with 10-foot hike-and-bike paths. About 75,000–80,000 cars cross 290 between Barker Cypress and Fry daily, so this one's a big deal.
🏭 Northwest Mall comes down
Crews have started leveling the 800,000-square-foot Northwest Mall, one of Houston's earliest enclosed shopping centers. The 45-acre site is the designated future Houston terminus for the proposed Houston–Dallas bullet train — though the rail line's timeline and financing remain unresolved. Demolition is expected to take about a year.
🍦 Andy's Frozen Custard opens on Barker Cypress
Perfect timing for a heat wave: Andy's Frozen Custard opened its new shop at 11450 Barker Cypress Rd. on May 4, bringing its concretes, jackpots and sundaes to the neighborhood. A sweet way to cool off this weekend.
🌤️ Weekend Weather & What to Do
First real taste of summer — hot, sunny and dry all weekend (rain holds off until Monday). Friday: patchy morning fog then sunny, high near 91. Saturday: partly sunny, high near 92. Sunday: partly sunny, high near 93. Hydrate and find some shade.
